One of the world's most well-known love stories is coming to Perth this October.
The Australian Ballet present Graeme Murphy's
Romeo & Juliet at the Burswood Theatre from 10-14 October.
Tickets are on sale now for this memorable performance.
The story of Romeo and Juliet is not unknown, but you may never have seen it like this before. Graeme Murphy's choreography highlights the tragedy of the star-crossed lovers, in a ballet that is both graceful and powerful.
For those used to theatre productions, or the many film versions produced over the years, it may seem strange to see this story performed with no words. Instead dance and music are in perfect symmetry, conveying the ecstasy, anger, agony, and love that are felt through the production.
Two elements that help bring this production to life are the costume and set deisign. Australian fashion designer
Akira Isogawa is responsible for the costumes, flowing gowns that move with ease across the dance floor. Equally stunning is the set design by
Gerard Manion , that comes to life with the help of
Jason Lam's projection design.
Highlights include Romeo and Juliet dancing amongst a shower of stars, anytime Mercutio and Benvolio jest with Romeo or chase the dancers, and the spectacular switch between the familiar world of fair Verona to a bustling Indian themed marketplace.
At the heart of the story is the universal concept of youth: young love, young passion, and young determination. The production shows that Romeo and Juliet forgoes boundaries of time or place, and perhaps that's why it's still so popular today.
Tickets start at just
$33 for D Reserve, up to
$216 for Premium Reserve. Tickets are on sale now, and can be purchased from the
