Married at First Sight, First Dates, The Bachelor, and The Bachelorette. We're bombarded with the romantic misadventures of couples willing to allow a TV camera into their intimate moments. If the high-definition antics and drama are overwhelming you, switch off the box and create your own fairytale moments (without the paparazzi).
Dinner and a movie is a convenient weeknight pleasure but can't we create our own postcard moments that television producers strive for? What if you escaped on a weekend getaway with pampering, fine dining, colourful sunsets and lightly scented roses?
If you're in Sydney, you can enjoy hundreds of romantic spots around the Harbour, beaches and floral landmarks. Unfortunately, millions of other couples visit these sites, disturbing the peaceful silence with cameras, champagne sipping, oyster scoffing and cheeky giggling. Whilst it creates a fun party/picnic atmosphere, it's difficult to create magical memories as visitors snap selfies.
To truly experience the fairytale moments that bring lasting joy when we describe them to envious friends and family, couples deserve an experience in the getaways near Sydney, escaping the bustling energy of the best city on Earth. These sites are easily accessed on a scenic drive, easing the tension of the working week as the odometer ticks over. On arrival, you'll enjoy privacy, time and freedom to rediscover romance without interruption.
Leura's Fairmont Resort transforms the rugged history of the Blue Mountains into a luxurious oasis. After arriving, share a refreshing beverage from the expansive balconies overlooking Jamison Valley and the still waters of the resort's lake. Breath deeply, inhaling the pure mountain air and exhaling the stresses of a hectic week.
Relax in the ensuite spa bath as the sun sets and the gas fireplace glows with golden warmth. Dine at the Eucalypt Restaurant, savouring the citrus and 5 spice glazed duck and the porcini mushroom risotto with black truffles. Sleep soundly until the sun's gentle rays dance at the foot of your king-size bed, reflecting from the vaulted ceilings.
After a fresh breakfast in bed, discover the World Heritage-listed national park with your personal guide highlighting the native flora and local birdlife fluttering between tree branches. You can also hit a round of golf, ride a segway, begin the morning with yoga, be pampered with a day spa or swim in the pool.
The resort has a range of packages and suites available, beginning at $199 for a standard room. The ultimate is the Dalai Lama suite. For more information about the suites, restaurants, facilities and packages, visit Fairmont Resort.
A short drive from Forster and Taree, the Clarendon hosts guests in the relaxed surroundings of Kiwarrak State Forest. The Chapel is one of seven custom-designed and constructed cottages for a personalised getaway in the aptly named Possum Brush.
Reverently enter the sandstone split-level cottage, gazing skyward at the vaulted cathedral ceilings and Gothic windows. Slowly slip back into old world romance, adorned with antiques, tapestries and a carved four poster cedar bed. Share afternoon tea or a candlelit dinner with antique silverware, china and crystal.
Prepare dinner together in the modern kitchen or arrange delivery of restaurant-prepared dishes including a seafood platter, chicken boscaiola or braised lamb shank. In the evening, settle into the plush sofa, warmed by the crackling embers of a log fire.
Slip into the heated spa pool to watch the sunrise before fuelling your day with an alfresco breakfast on the patio. Explore the region on horseback or on a mountain bike. Return for a Wimbledon moment on the tennis court before cooling off in the large pool.
Prices start at $280 per night with a special romance package including champagne, chocolates, robes, country breakfasts, fresh fruit platters and delightful freshly picked local flowers for $120. For more information about the suites, restaurants, facilities and packages, visit The Chapel.
The Hunter Valley is a wine-lover's paradise. Beyond the vineyards, a natural oasis into Australian bushland awaits. In the Wonga Mountaintop Chalet, you'll marvel at the valley, stretching beneath you and changing throughout the day as fog lifts, sunlight shimmers and wedge-tailed eagles soar between treetops.
Enjoy complimentary champagne and chocolates when you arrive, admire the local garden and centuries-old towering trees. After a meandering bushwalk, snapping kangaroos, wallabies and wombats with your camera, return to the lounge, warmed by a log fire or retire to the spa on your private deck. Drift to sleep beneath thousands of stars glimmering with life as the night sky blankets you.
Share a romantic meal, prepared in the chalet's kitchen, or dine at the Farmers Hotel or the Flying Duck Bistro.
Prices start at $340 per night with a romance package including rose petals delicately decorating the bed, a breakfast hamper and cheese platter, and a massage in the chalet for $290. For more information about the suites, restaurants, facilities and packages, visit cabinshuntervalley.com.au.
