If you're lucky enough to have a special someone in your life, you may wish to explore some regions outside of Melbourne to get away from it all and indulge in some special alone time on a romantic weekend away.
For this, Daylesford is the perfect getaway. Just an hour and a half drive out of the city and you're in a world of some other era. Depending on where you are in the township, you could be back in the late 1880's visiting the Daylesford of yesteryear as the popular spa resort, sampling the natural spring mineral water as have many visitors before you. Alternatively, visiting the many vintage shops and second hand bookstores your could be transported to anywhere between the 1920's and 50's.
There is such natural, understated, beauty around the area, particularly during Autumn, just a simple wander around the lakes (Lake Daylesford) or parks (Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens) is a memorable moment to share.
There is many a quaint shop, and foodie treats around town. I highly recommend Sweet Decadence, on the main street for home made chocolate treats.
Cliffy's Emporium also has many regional and organic produce and makes for a great lunch time stop.
I should probably admit at this point, that I was lucky enough to have my significant other treat me to the weekend at the
Lake House . The accommodation and food is so divine, we could have travelled anywhere for our weekend away and I'd be raving about it. Nevertheless, a trip to Daylesford transports you a world away and relaxing special weekend for any romance desiring traveller, coupled or otherwise.
