Tucked away off South Street in O'Connor and in basically the same shape and decor as when it opened in 1984 is, Rolloways Leisure Centre where you can get entry for $10, skate hire for $3 and spend the night - or three hours - rolling in circles to the soundtrack of 80s and 90s bangers. That's what I did last Saturday anyway.
Throughout the week, Rolloways offers lessons, sessions and private function time, but on Friday and Saturday nights from 7-10pm, Rolloways becomes a roller disco. Fully equipped with strobe lights, smoke machines and a DJ who after prompting MIGHT play you some Britney Spears but usually only the obscure 00s tracks, this venue is perfect for a funky, fun evening with friends. Or a date, but if you already play roller hockey ladies, it's probably not fair to bring some unsuspecting dude down to show him all your tricks. Not that everything in life is fair though, guys!
Rolloways is also available for kids (or other) parties, complete with 90s style candy bar, slushies and arcade games and there are even prizes for mid-night games like limbo, spin the bottle and "musical chairs". If you're among the more competent crowd, there are also several chances to get a speed skate on during the night and wow potentially everyone else.
For under $15, there's not much better or more interesting way to spend a one-off Friday night in Perth and if that hasn't convinced you yet, you can get Red Cloud lollies for 20c each!
