A few years ago it used to be near impossible to find Vietnamese rolls (or banh mi) south of the city centre; while the numbers don't match those of the Western or Northern suburbs, Adelaide's love for banh mi has seen shops popping up in some less common locales. have been doing steady trade at their small Goodwood Road store for a couple of years and prove you don't need to go west to find some of the best.

Their rolls come with roast pork, barbecue pork, metaball, grilled chicken, or shredded chicken. With a spread of butter mayo, the crunchy rolls are then filled with your meat of choice and generous amounts of pickled carrot and daikon, coriander, onion, cucumber, and chilli if you like a bit of heat. So what sets these rolls apart from all the others? It's got to be the pickled carrot and daikon. have some of the best pickled vegetables around and they're not shy when it comes to filling up your roll. They add a fresh and crisp contrast to the fattier meats. Of course, this doesn't necessarily make these the best rolls in town, but if you like lots of pickled veg you can't go past them.

The store is run by two young women who are always friendly and working at top speed. Around lunch time a line runs out the door and it's not unusual for them to sell out before closing.

On top of banh mi, they also sell noodle bowls, salads, cold rolls, and spring rolls. They also make Vietnamese coffee, although there can be a bit of a wait.

The store is only tiny, so there isn't much room for sitting inside. There is a small window table that looks out onto Goodwood Road, but if you don't eat in store there are benches out the front of nearby Goodwood Primary School and there's a park by Goodwood Railway Station.

Picking the best banh mi in Adelaide in a contentious topic, it really all depends on what you like in a roll, but there's no denying that the rolls at are up there. The lunch lines can get annoying, but they're something you'll find at any good roll shop. There's a lot more to than just a convenient southern location. If you're a banh mi lover you need to add it to your list.
