Garden Cafe and Playground at Rodney's Plant Nursery

When most people think of Pialligo, well known for a street of Plant Nurseries a few hundred metres from the airport, they think it is just for Green Thumbs and Landscapers.

We have discovered that you don't even need to be shopping for plants or pots - we just go for the Playground and Café at "Rodneys Plants Plus". The "Garden Café" is located inside the nursery, a quiet and peaceful location with the sound of tinkling water and birdlife …until the occasional 747 flies over! This in itself is an attraction for the little ones in your family - the excitement of plane spotting is an added bonus.

The Café has a range of delectable cakes, cheesecakes and slices (the Mars Bar Cheesecake is highly recommended) as well as a full menu for breakfast and lunch. Check out their website for the latest Menu.

There are 4 peaceful seating areas to sit back in the sun and enjoy the serenity. Within the "Garden Café" itself it is warm and cosy to enjoy a cuppa and look outside to the Cafes' herb and vegetable garden. There is also an outside area sitting around a tinkling fountain, another seating area bordering the plant nursery as well as the children's play area. This area is set up for families, with a jug of lemon iced water on hand with colourful glasses, a beautiful old tree to sit under, playground with slide as well as a cubby house to play hide and seek in. You can't help but start to wind down and relax in such a peaceful environment, it is a haven in the city, just minutes from the airport.

So if you are wondering what to do with your family or your partner this weekend, take a drive to Pialligo (only 7km from the CBD) for some great food, relaxation and play time for the kids.

Once you have enjoyed your meal and relaxation, you can also have a look around the rest of the Nursery - they sell more than just plants. Go inside their giftware shed - you may need to hide your credit card! On the way out, check to see if the apple orchards are open - the young ones love picking their own apples to take home too. Pialligo may be just one street, but it has a lot to offer.
