Cheap, quality food on Smith St, Collingwood
On a recent last-minute dinner outing, my friend and I stumbled upon this unassuming gem towards the north end of Smith Street in Collingwood. We weren't exactly looking for it, but it sure was looking for us, and it did not disappoint.
After flushing over the menu for a good ten minutes, I was so impressed I send a picture to my American friend, who I knew would appreciate the long lists of American style dishes. I received a text back immediately telling me to try the hushpuppies – a doughnut-like fried bread ball, accompanied here with maple butter. Delicious!
The food was sensational. The pressed rib and slaw baguette was amazing, as was the sizable smash burger and the lemon buttered asparagus with fried mozzarella. All together, the menu has a classy USA diner feel with impressively unique flavours. It reminded me somewhat of the recent food truck faze, which has brought us the likes of Taco Truck and Gumbo Kitchen. Perhaps it had something to do with the affordable, distinct, and just damn good food that isn't quite fast, but definitely not slow.
With plenty of share plate options, an impressive beer list, and a casual, relaxed atmosphere, I soon gathered all my other pals together for a big feast the following week. They were equally impressed!
