Most Important Meal of The Day
There are loads of places to grab a great breakfast on the Gold Coast, with many cafés and restaurants in a bidding war with each other, offering a cheap $10 breakfast - which is pretty great value for money. But if you look at the small print, some are much better than others.
I have been to many cafés and restaurants up and down the Coast for their breakfast deals, and I have found that for value for money, service and taste, The Rocks on Broadbeach (previously Bistro Blanc) is the best.
We went on Sunday mid morning and it was so busy the staff barely had time to clean tables after people left before someone else had sat down. Plus it was so popular that there were even people being turned away, as they just had no room. There was a constant steam of people all wanting the $10 breakfast - which is usually a good sign.
The staff were rushed off their feet but still had smiles on their faces and the service was prompt and friendly. We had to wait about 20 - 25 minutes for the food, but seeing how busy it was I really didn't mind. Plus when the breakfast came, I soon forgot about the wait and got stuck in.
Often when you have a "meal deal" the quality isn't up to scratch or it's a mouse-size portion, but this was quite the opposite. For $10 you get sausage, loads of bacon, two eggs, two slices of toast, mushrooms, tomato and a hash brown. This is the most I have seen, as quite often at other places the $10 breakfast is just bacon, eggs and toast.
The eggs were runny and cooked well, the hash brown crunchy, the bacon crispy - nothing watery or under or over cooked here, just really tasty food. Which, when you consider the volume of food and the rate it is being delivered, is quite impressive.
Their $10 breakfast is available 7 days a week from 7am to 11:45am. So even the very late risers get to indulge too.
If the big cooked breakfast isn't your thing, then they have lots of other breakfast dishes to impress. Watching the delicious pancake stacks, waffles and eggs Benedict etc being delivered to other tables made me want to go back the next day too.
If you really want to save money, then you should stick to the free bottle of water, as sometimes the cheap food gets over-shadowed by the expensive drinks. They are not so bad here with soft drinks being approx $4 - $5, English breakfast tea is $3.50, coffee is $3.90 and a mocha is $4.90.
Located next to Starbucks in Broadbeach, just off Surf Parade and by the entrance to Oasis Shopping Car Park, they have plenty of covered outside and indoor seating, but you may have a little wait, especially on the weekend. Also Oasis Car Park offers free three hour parking, so you can really have breakfast on the cheap.
