Hidden gem in Karawatha Forest
Located within Karawatha Forest, the Rocks Circuit is an adventurous yet achievable bushwalk for families. The 2.5km circuit leads visitors through the bushland to an amazing display of huge granite outcrops and a great lookout.

For the most part, the trail leads through dry eucalypt forest. There are some slight inclines and a section of steps, however, these did not deter the children (ages 3-9 years).

As we neared the rocky outcrops, the children gasped and raced ahead. Multiple decking platforms have been erected among some of the larger boulders, providing sufficient elevation to examine the textures and appreciate the enormity of these landforms. We spent quite a bit of time exploring, climbing rocks and relaxing in the serenity.

The trail continues, leading to a picnic area and rocky lookout. Although much of the view was obstructed by bushland, its beauty was breathtaking. Again, the arrangement of boulders provided ideal opportunities for climbing and exploration. Previous visitors had constructed a shelter, which only added to the sense of adventure.

So many nooks and crannies

The trail descending from the lookout is rather steep and requires careful attention. It is for this reason that I would recommend walking the circuit in a clockwise direction.

The best access for this track is via the Ironbark Circuit, next to the Karawatha Forest Discovery Centre (Acacia Road, Karawatha).
