For the whole weekend in September, Maryborough Queensland is going to come alive with rockin' and rollin' at the Vintage Festival . The festival starts on Friday evening 16th September and runs through the weekend concluding on Sunday 18th September. It is being organised by Rockin Maryborough, who are a not-for-profit organisation. The group is not owned by a car club or run by the council, instead they are a group of enthusiasts who live and breathe everything Retro, Pinup, Hot-rods, Vintage, Classic and of course, Rock n Roll.

Opening the weekend event, will be a Rock n Roll Ball in the Maryborough Town Hall and music will be provided by Buddy Love and the Tremors . You often hear people talking about the 'good old days', well here is your chance to get dressed up and rock it like you did in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Tickets for the Ball are on sale now and can be purchased from Katrina at Cherry Lane Fashion for $35.00 per person, phone 0478 890 156. The cost includes a supper. The event is licenced and has a military atmosphere.

If you cannot attend the Ball, there will be a Rockabilly Dance Party on the Saturday evening from 8.00pm to midnight, again at the Maryborough Town Hall and music for this event will be by Twang . Tickets are $20.00 per person and can be also be purchased from Cherry Lane Fashion.

Entry to the Miss Rockin Maryborough Pinup Pageant is now open, with entry forms found on the website. The competition is open to all women aged 18 and over who are inspired by the fashion and styling of the 1940's through to 1960's. Three photographs of yourself must be submitted with your entry form. Photographs must also be submitted for the Little Miss Pinup (ages 13 to 17), however a parent or guardian will be contacted prior to the entry being accepted to gain permission for the use of the photographs.

Throughout Saturday and Sunday the festivities will continue in the Wharf Street Precinct with live bands , Vintage Market Stalls, Pooches on Parade, Dancing in the Street, Dyno Competition, High Tea and Dance and Pinup Workshops.

The Pooches on Parade will be judged on Sunday with an entry fee of just $5.00 required for your furry friend to walk the red carpet. Prizes will be for the Best Dressed Owner and Dog Theme, Best Dressed Rock and Roll Dog, Best Trick, Best Groomed and Cutest Factor.

You may even like to enter your car, caravan or bike in the Show n Shine competition. Vehicles must be pre 1981 and include vintage, hot-rods and classics. Bikes are to be pre 1971 and caravans pre 1970. All requirements and entry forms can be located on the website and discounts are given for car clubs entering six or more vehicles or husband and wife teams. There will be over 240 Hot-rods and 40 Vintage Bikes on display in designated zones in the CBD. Trophies are awarded for the top 10 cars.

Jason from Queensland Chassis Dyno Maryborough will be situated in the car park area on both Saturday and Sunday for those wanting to test what their vehicles can do on the fully mobile dyno. The cost will be $60 for three runs and times are required to be booked with Jason on 0419 719 970. Open exhausts are not allowed.

If you are a vintage, collectable, retro, rock n roll themed stall holder, you are invited to download the Vendor Stall Form and return it signed to the organisers along with a copy of any insurance certificate or food handling licence if applicable.

A percentage of the all proceeds from this year's event will go to a nominated charity within the local area.

If you need any further information you can contact Rockin Maryborough by either filling out the Contact Form on the website or phoning Rachel on 0497 493 841. The mobile is purely for this festival and not manned at all times, so a message can be left and your call will be returned.

Dirty Dancing was one of the movies that renewed our desire to move our torsos to the sound of rock and roll and the Vintage Festival in Maryborough is going to keep that driving memento in our souls, reliving much more of those healthy, fun times of yester-year. You will be disappointed if you miss this event.
