Since 1925, has been bringing joy to Rockhampton families and visitors. With over 100 animals and more than 30 species, you can meet fascinating animals and observe them in their carefully recreated habitats.





You can find Australia's favourite animals such as kangaroos, wombats, dingoes, koalas, emus and both salty and fresh crocodiles as well as exotic animals such as macaws, and gibbons, to name a few.





Don't forget to bring a camera or smartphone so you can document cheeky chimpanzees doing acrobats on a rope or otters flaunting their swimming skills. No doubt, meerkats are the favourite among all the animals at the zoo. You can get up close and personal with these amazing animals, by booking a meerkat encounter through this link . It will cost $100 per person or $300 per family (up to 4 family members) for a special meerkat feeding session and private keeper talk as well as the chance to get your photo taken with the meerkats.



The talented keepers at also hold daily keeper talks and animal feeding. We joined the crocodile talk and we heard lots of fascinating facts about The Colonel, a 4.3 meters salty crocodile who reside in the zoo for almost 9 years.



Even though it is free entry to the zoo, you can find several stations where you can donate to support the zoo program.





The Zoo is open 9 am to 4.15 pm every day (except for Christmas Day) and is wheelchair and stroller accessible. is owned and operated by Rockhampton Regional Council. Search for on Facebook for the latest updates. You can also find a QR code for self-guide tour, full of all information that you need about the animals at the zoo. We can't find any brochure or map for the zoo but they provide signage at the entry side with a map of the zoo. Don't forget to get a selfie with the life-size gorilla statue before leaving!
