is a month long festival that serves to promote, engage and acknowledge the creative community of the Rockdale region. Now in its 5th year, the festival is set to embrace its hallmark events, whilst growing its capacity for cultural endeavours and arts activities which value our creative and vibrant city.



The festival is bigger than ever, featuring an exciting series of arts and cultural events, workshops installations and exhibitions that are accessible, innovative and all engaging.

The Rockdale Arts Festival will be launched Sunday the10th of April and finish Sunday the 8th of May 2016.

During the month long arts festival, you will be able to view, visit and take part in a number of different activities that will stimulate your inner artistic soul.

You can kick start your journey by going to the stART: Rockdale Arts Festival Launch on Sunday the 10th of April, 11:30am-3:30pm at Cook Park, Kyeemagh.



The opening event of the Rockdale Arts Festival coincides with the opening of the Rockdale Outdoor Gallery Art Prize at Cook Park, Kyeemagh. A fun day out for all ages, it includes art and craft workshops, circus playground, pop-up exhibitions and more.

While there, you could stroll along the shores and marvel at the ROGAP 2016: Sculptures by the Bay from Sunday the 10th of April to Sunday the 24th of April. This temporary outdoor exhibition showcases Rockdale's growing multiculturalism and diversity and is a stimulating platform for artistic and cultural celebration to the region.





Local, national and international exhibiting artists take part in the 5th annual Rockdale Outdoor Gallery Art Prize for temporary public artworks.

Rockdale Council invites all local residents to take part in CamerART Photographic Competition with the theme "Living Local". The competition is open to amateurs and professionals and aims to highlight the assets of the LGA such as its;

**• Family life.
• Architecture and heritage.
• Landscape, rivers and parks.**

There will be a number of categories:

**• Junior (Up to 12 years).
• Youth (13-18 years).
• Open (Amateurs & Professionals).
• Rockdale Chamber of Commerce 'People's Choice Award'.
• Discovery Point Community Prize.**

WHAT'S ON FOR THE KIDS.

The kids haven't been left out of this festival. Not only can they walk around and view the art, there are thirteen different activities that they can take part in for FREE from Monday the 11th of April to Sunday the 24th of April 2016 at Rockdale City Branch Libraries.

They could take part in one or all of the following:

• Dungeons & Dragons – Fantasy role playing game for the 13 and over.



• Dragon Plate Painting for 9 to 12 year-olds only.

• Maybe they would like to take part in the Express Yourself - Write! (ages 13-18) on Wednesday the 13th of April from 2pm to 4pm at the Rockdale Town Hall. Award-winning author B. Michael Radburn will be running this fun and hands-on creative writing workshop. He was a short-story teller before moving to novels which allow him to explore his characters, as well as the natural and supernatural environs.

You'll get tips to get your story flowing and find out about the road to becoming published. If you have a story or a novel idea in the works, bring it along to get some practical advice. Michael mixes his workshop up with music and if you play an instrument, bring it along for an impromptu jam session at the end. Double the creativity! Double the fun!

• For all those budding photographers out there, between the ages of 13 to 18 you should think about taking part in the Photography Workshop for Beginners over 1½ days from Thursday the 14th of April from 10am to 3:30pm at the Pindari Room, Rockdale Town Hall & Day 2: Friday the 15th of April from 1:30pm to 4pm at the Shopfront Theatre in Carlton.

• At some time or another there always seems to be a bit of a drama queen inside of us all. Eaton Gorge Theatre Company has designed a unique drama workshop based around the theme of marine protection and conservation. During this fun workshop each participant will use their imagination and get to practice simple storytelling and improvisation skills. Participants will get to put on a short play for each other at the end of the workshop called Ocean Play - Drama Workshop for ages 9-12 on Monday April the 18th from 10:30am to 12:30pm, Level 1 at the Rockdale Town Hall.

•The Council is currently looking for local emerging artists to take part in a community mural project during RAF 2016 called the Patricia Carlon Mural. High school students are encouraged to apply. Please submit all expressions of interest along with artist resume or description of prior art experience via email to Council's Recreation, Arts & Culture Officer.

WHAT'S ON FOR THE ADULTS.

Now that the kids have been taken care of what else is there for the adults to do during the ? Read on to find out what's on:

• On Friday 22nd of April from 10am to 2pm at Cook Park, Kyeemagh get creative at our recycled art and sculpture workshop, hear from local environmental groups and see this year's ROGAP Earth Day Eco-Fair.

• Take part in the Writing Your Family History or Memoir Workshop with Geoff Bartlett on Thursday 28th of April from 6pm to 8pm at the Council Chambers, 1st Floor, Rockdale Town Hall. This workshop is for those interested in preserving the history and stories of themselves or their family. It offers ideas on gathering raw material and methods for sorting through information and pictures to create an attractive, easy to read and informative record of the history of your family, business or organisation.

• Join in the Song Writing for Beginners on Saturday 30th of April, 10am to 5pm at the Senior's Centre, Rockdale for an interactive and collaborative song writing workshop led by seasoned film and theatre songwriter Joanna Weinberg.



Participants will learn over the course of one day how to devise and construct a song using rhythm, melody, lyrics and rhyme. All songs will be set to music and participants will leave with their very own original work, plus a take-home worksheet for future reference.

• Maybe you would like to learn how to knit. The Sans Souci Library Knitting Group would like to welcome you along on Monday 2nd May, 11:30am to1pm at the Sans Souci Library, but you will need to bring along your 8 ply wool and No. 4 needles. This is for beginners and experienced knitters.

• Artists, Art & Cultural Workers, Creatives & Enthusiasts are invited to attend the St. George Arts & Cultural Network ForumSt. George Arts & Cultural Network Forum on Thursday the 5th of May from 5pm to 9:30pm at the Guild Theatre in Rockdale.

• Go to the Regals and see 'The Boy from Oz' at the Regals from Friday the 6th of May to Sunday the 8th of May at the Rockdale Town Hall. Ticket Prices: Adult: $39, Concession: $34, Child (< 12 yr.): $29. Visit www.theregals.com.au to book your tickets or call 0417 676 377.

• Attend the Guild Theatre presents 'When Dad Married Fury' from Friday the 6th of May to Sunday the 8th of May at the Guild Theatre in Rockdale.
