Rock of Ages is a musical film, set in 1987, with Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta both seeking to pursue musical ambitions in Hollywood. The story follows them and their relationship, as well as the ongoing protests from traditionalists against rock music in the area, in particular, the music of the notorious Stacee Jaxx.
The star-studded cast also includes the actress Catherine Zeta Jones, actor Alec Baldwin, comedian Russell Brand and singer Mary J. Blige. However, for me it was a one-man show - the man being Tom Cruise, whose portrayal of the infamous rockstar Stacee Jaxx was far different than anything I've ever seen him do before. Nevertheless, his performance was entertaining, and his singing was one of the highlights of the film.
Though the story is not particularly strong, it doesn't really matter. The music itself is powerful enough to make the film amazing. With hits from Journey, REO Speedwagon and Def Leppard (just to name a few) Rock of Ages is a great feel good show, and you'll be singing (and probably laughing) throughout.
