[SECTION]The Most Coveted Rock in Bali[/SECTION]

Nature bestowed the setting for a dramatic venue in Bali and AYANA Resort and Spa created the Rock Bar. The award-winning independent hotel is also best known for its Balinese-style accommodations and luxurious facilities including thirteen dining venues, five purpose-built wedding venues, infinity-edged ocean beach pool and the world's largest aquatonic seawater therapy pool.

Opened since July 2009, the Rock Bar has won many accolades from hotel guests and travel media. This chic open-air platform continues to draw visitors from all over the world eager for an experience of Bali's most coveted sunset and shimmering ocean views. You can look at the photos and read the reviews but nothing beats being there in person. Here are 6 reasons to get yourself to the Rock in Bali.

[SECTION]Dramatic Design[/SECTION]

The natural rock formations of Jimbaran's towering cliffs and wide expanse of ocean provide the canvas for a design masterpiece by Yasuhiro Koichi of SPIN, Japan. It is minimalistic and blends in with the surrounds. The focus is on the enjoying the coastal scenery and proximity to the surf. At the heart of the design footprint is the Rock Bar perched 14 metres above the waves of the Indian Ocean.

This open-top bar surrounded by high glass walls is to place to enjoy uninterrupted, 360-degree views of the sea, sky and cliffs. On both sides of the centrepiece, timber platforms provide additional viewing points and comfortable seating. As the evening advances, the glass-topped bar counter comes alive with soft illumination in concert with the ambient glow from candles and the shades of sunset. This piece of sparkling glass art is designed by renowned Japanese glass artist Seiki Torige.

The Rock Bar and its surrounds provide an ideal place where sunset dreams in Bali become a reality.

[SECTION]Extensive Seating Areas and Decks[/SECTION]

Although the Rock Bar popularly refers to the small glassed prominence, it is fringed by terraces and paved areas that offer unobstructed ocean views. The seating areas can accommodate up to 650 guests making it one of the largest bar of its kind in Bali. While the queues may be long at times, the linear design contain ample wooden decks to give all visitors an opportunity to enjoy the ambience. One of the deck areas is accessed via a natural cave. There is also an elevated round Deck connected to the restaurant section via an over-water bridge offering premier seating for up to 18 persons.

[SECTION]Cliffs, Coast and Sunsets[/SECTION]

The Rock Bar enjoys a celebrity status in Bali as a must visit venue. Apart from the design aesthetics, the natural scenery of Jimbaran Bay plays a significant role in the Bar's popularity. It is bestowed with nature's gift of limestone cliffs, aquamarine coast and magical sunsets.

A cliffed coast dressed in foliage shoulders the Bar, from left to right. The surrounding wave-cut platform resonates with the sound of crashing waves and splashing water. Perched 14 metres above the waters on a rock outcrop, the Bar serves up a panoramic view of the Indian ocean and the horizon.

In the day, the pale blue of the sky is mirrored by the blue hue of water. The palette is diffused into myriad colours as the day draws to a close. Brush strokes of yellow, orange, red and purple stretch across the horizon, broken only by wispy curls and cotton puff clouds. At dusk, the egg yolk sun disappears beneath the sea and the Bar takes on a firefly glow.

[SECTION]Signature Cocktails[/SECTION]

What better way to admire the iridescent canvas of sky and ocean as the sun sets, than by kicking back and sipping on a signature cocktail served by suave waiters and waitresses in black.

The Bar plays host to a comprehensive menu of contemporary and classic cocktails designed by Sebastien Bonnefoi of Urban Bar. Local fruits, herbs and spices are blended with international liquors to create concoctions like 'Spa on the Rock', 'Asian Lychee Martini' and 'Tarragon Margarita'.

The Bar favourites include 'Rock My World' consisting of Grand Marnier, vodka, pineapple juice, lemon juice, fresh orange and kaffir leaves, and the theatrical Ginger Berry Tiny with light rum, strawberry puree, ginger oil and lime on a cloud of dry ice. These cocktails will ease you through the hour of dusk and into dinner.

[SECTION]Mediterranean Dining[/SECTION]

While the Bar and cocktails enjoy the limelight, the restaurant dining experience should not be discounted. It is an alluring venue by night, shouldering the elevated Round Deck. The atmosphere is made romantic by the soft glow of small flames and lamps against a night sky of twinkling stars.

Concealed in the cliff side, the kitchen headed by Greek Chef Vangelis Zogas inspires tasty visions of the Mediterranean with seafood taking centre stage. The menu hints at the flavours of Italy, Spain and Greece with familiar notes of zest, fruit, smoky meats, salt and freshness of local produce. Here are some of the popular dishes:

The Watermelon salad soothes the balmy day and opens the palate with the cleansing flavours of melon contrasted with the bite of feta cheese and the nutty pistachio dressing.

The hearty Orzo Lobster introduces layers of flavours to the palate. There are notes of tomato, chili peppers and smoky bacon wrapped creamily around the Kritharaki like an Italian risotto or Spanish paella. The butterflied lobster lends it own fleshy sweetness to the dish.

The walnut pie eased the meal from a savoury note with the pumpkin puree to sweet and soft sponge coupled with creamy ice cream hinting at fragrant pistachios and topped by a crunchy wafer.

While cocktails and sunsets are a prelude to a romantic affair, dinner at the Rock Bar's restaurant will end your evening on a delicious note.

[SECTION]A One-of-a-kind Destination[/SECTION]
