Event:
Surprising Fun-filled Day of Robotic Technology
As we soar into a world of technology that only Da Vinci could have imagined, Australia's largest one-day robotics festival, Robotronica, returns for the third time at QUT. Entry to this year's event is free, bringing you up to date with mind-blowing inventions and technology that are rewarding our nation's stronghold into the future.

This year QUT showcases anything and everything in the advance of technology from Robowars, aerial robotics or drone displays, the future in motorsport, Artbots using LEGO, a Robo-Panda and surgical robots. The displays are interactive for children and adults. Robots for every application; you will not go home disappointed.

As you wander around QUT's Gardens Point (City) Campus grounds you will see far more than expected and the time between 9.00am and 4.00pm will not be enough to absorb all there is on offer. Highlights of the events throughout the day are:

Artbots using LEGO, in the Registrar's Garden, at the Art Museum, will collaborate with you to create your own artwork. There is no age limit on this category and no bookings are required. Just pop in and start drawing.

While you are there you may like to discover more about robots and artificial intelligence in the museum's gallery where experimental duo Jesse Stevens and Dean Peterson lead you into a surreal retro robotic world. This exhibition named Machination features performative mechatronic sculptures combining human/object hybrid forms and collaged archival video and sound, offering the viewer a new perspective on our own world.

Another exhibition in the same building Why Future Still Needs Us: AI and Humanity, gives us an insight into artificial intelligence exploring the relationship between humans, creativity and machine. In an advanced world, what are the benefits of humanity in a machine age working beyond the current existing modes?

Drone displays, QUT's aerial robotics are scheduled for presentation on the hour starting at 9.00 am in Room 134, O Block.

Enthusiasts in motorsports need to head to the all-day demonstrations on Kidney Lawn where an F1 simulator will take you through the paces of motorsports in the future.

It does not matter if you became a fan when the first Star Wars movie arrived on our screens or you are a child of today's future, there is something magical when you hear those words "the force is with you". Star Wars characters of the Redback Garrison 501st Legion will be roaming the site throughout the day and you may be fortunate to get a photo taken with them.

From 11:30am in P Block, Professor Ron Arkin will give a public lecture on Robots that Need to Mislead: Biologically-inspired Machine Deception. Bookings are required to be made for this lecture.

Also featuring are the finals of the Australian Robowars Championship. Heats for this championship will be fought on Saturday with the final battle being conquered on Sunday. Robot builders across Australia will be competing in this exciting event at Robotronica, Gardens Theatre. Free tickets can be reserved here.

In 2015 this event drew over 18,000 people to the QUT Gardens Point Campus. Each event is better than the last one with lots more displays, activities, talks and things to engage in, making Robotronica an event you will not want to miss.

The QUT's Gardens Point Campus is situated at the end of George Street, Brisbane. As there will be construction at Queen's Wharf and on Margaret Street between George and Williams Streets, anyone wishing to drive will need to exit via Elizabeth or Turbot Street off-ramps as Margaret Street off-ramp will be closed. Parking is available at the Gardens Point Campus; however to eliminate frustration on the day, it may be advisable to catch a train or bus to the event. The pedestrian footpath gantry is on the southern side of Margaret Street. More information on these road closures can be found here.
