I enjoy "fine dining", presenting programs on radios 4MBS, MBS Light and 4RPH and going to drama and music at Brisbane theatres.
If you can only get to one concert this year, may we suggest that you make it this one!
Just a few weeks ago Roberto Alagna was headlining the New York Metropolitan Opera's "Manon Lescaut" to standing ovations, following a three month sell-out season with the Met in another opera (Madame Butterfly).
The story of his discovery is close to a fairy-tale. As a reasonably successful Italian/French accountant, he longed to break into opera, and hustled his way to meet Pavarotti, in Paris. "Sing one note" Pavarotti challenged him. On the basis of that one note Pavarotti flew him to Philadelphia where he won a highly prized opera competition.
Thirty years and sixty roles later, Alagna is at the pinnacle of his career.
For his Australian tour, Kath Rose tells us "Mr Alagna has created a program that will truly showcase his sublime instrument. As well as performing some of the great operatic arias, he will sing popular songs that reflect his Sicilian, Neapolitan and French musical background."
A magnificent double CD "Robertissimo" (sold out on Amazon) has been released to mark this tour, and Mr Alagna will for the most part be singing songs featured on this album – stellar operatic arias, with Italian, Neopolitan and French popular songs.
This is a rare opportunity to hear this word-class tenor.
