A day to celebrate the life of a cherished children's author
Roald Dahl was one of the world's most influential and beloved children's writers, bringing us a plethora of unforgettable classics such as Matilda, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and Giant Peach, The BFG and many more - and this September is the 100th anniversary of his birth, so the people at Melbourne Writers Festival are celebrating by hosting a Roald Dahl Day!
Roald Dahl Day is an entire day of free fun and excitement held at Federation Square for every kid (or grown up) who has ever loved the heartwarming words of Roald Dahl.
Beginning at 10:30am with Roald Dahl Story Time, fans of all ages will be captivated by the fun and interactive reading of Roald Dahl's story Fantastic Mr. Fox on the main stage.
At 11:30am, those who enjoy a bit of gossip can discover how Tim Minchin came to compose a musical based on Roald Dahl's book Matilda with exciting behind-the-scenes fragments from Matilda and Me, narrated by Tim's sister Nel.
12pm is when all budding artists will want to be nowhere else but Fed Square with a free workshop teaching you how to draw the adored character BFG!
Every hardcore and die-hard fan of Roald Dahl will not want to miss the Roald Dahl Trivia at 12:30pm, which will be full of questions, quizzes and puzzles to put your memory and dedication to the test!
The exhibition Cover to Cover - Roald Dahl Around the World will also be featured all day, every at the Melbourne Writers Festival, showcasing a range of Roald Dahl book covers from all around the globe - such as a Japanese version of Matilda, a Thai Fantastic Mr. Fox, a French The Witches, and many more.
