A brand new barbecue, picnic and function space has been opened at South Bank Parklands.

The 6,800 square metre provides a huge recreation area for families and groups. There is seating on the terraces next to the barbecues and an expanse of lawn to lay down picnic mats and take in the views or listen to live entertainment.

Dotted around the site are sculptures of rocks covered in fishing nets. In keeping with the theme is a sculpture of undulating water. It will be interesting to see how this is transformed when there is a downpour of rain.

With the opening of , there are now three barbecue locations, including Picnic Island Green and Riverside Green.

It is worth noting that Brisbane City Council permits the consumption of alcohol (for persons 18 years or older) at these barbecue locations, as well as at River Quay Green, provided there is food being served. Alcohol is allowed between 10am-8pm. However, New Year's Eve and Australia Day are alcohol-free for public safety reasons.
