There's nothing better than browsing an Independent bookshop and choosing some good books. However, I confess I often have an inner struggle between buying cheap online from one of the multinational booksellers (and feeling guilty) and paying a premium to support the fantastic local experience. So I was really excited to discover Riverbend Books Pop Up store on Oxford Street in Bulimba this morning, which is selling excess stock at bargain prices.
It's the perfect place to buy some last minute Christmas gifts and stocking fillers. There is something for everyone with a wide range of well known books, including Nigella Lawson cookbooks and Ian McEwan fiction. I was particularly impressed with the range of fantastic Kids books.
Fill a bag with books from the Teens' Table for $15
I spent $30 and came out with an armful of childrens' books - that's my Christmas shopping sorted. My best bargains were "Counting Birds" by Alice Melvin in hardback for $7 (normally $29.95) and "The Gruffalo's Child and Other Songs" Songbook in hardback including CD for $10.
The Pop Up Store is located opposite the cinema on Oxford Street, in the old Harcourts office. It is open from 10am until 7pm daily and will stay open until 9.30pm this Thursday 20th, Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd December. The store should stay open throughout December but best get there quickly to avoid disappointment. It's much more fun than ordering online.
