It was one of those recent humid and slimey summer afternoons at which Brisbane so excels. Having sweltered throughout the day we were looking for the opportunity to refuel just as the afternoon storm broke.
So it was by accident that we stumbled upon Riverbar and Kitchen down on Eagle Street, behind Riparian Plaza, and on The Promenade by the Brisbane River.

Catching a cooling breeze
With lots of casual outdoor seating and sweeping views across the water, this is alfresco dining at its best. Indoor seating is casual and marine inspired and only adds to the relaxed vibe.

Always good on a hot day....
We started with a refreshing bevvie; the menu includes cocktails, mocktails, wines and premium beers. Sweet potato chips went down well as accompanying nibbles. You guessed it - it didn't take long to feel refreshed!

Sweet Potato Chips
The Brisbanites amongst us will realise that although we love our cooling summer storms, we also understand that after every downpour the humidity increases and the smell rising from the hot asphalt can be all encompassing. Yes, sadly, relief from the day's heat is fleeting.
Which meant that it was only right for us to stay put at Riverbar and Kitchen and watch night fall over the Storey Bridge, enjoying the breeze off the river.

Great view by day, even better by night
The menu had just been changed for summer eating and there are share plates, entrečs and mains. Meals are kept simple, like my Flathead Tails and Chips, though are fresh and cooked perfectly. The Farmer loved his steak and once again it was a case of "less is more".

Summer menu
Yes, the prices are a little more pricey than the usual pub fare, though you are paying for quality and an outlook to die for. Under the Matt Moran banner, celebrity chef and guru of the paddock-to-plate brigade, I have honestly never enjoyed fish and chips so much. Desserts? Totally inconceivable as our tummies were full.

Fish N Chips
This is a great venue to catch up with family and friends and meets all the requirements of a wide demographic. It opens at 7am to meet the demands of the breakfast and morning meeting crowds, covers lunches and dinners and everything in between. Riverbar and Kitchen does not take reservations, and be aware, I can well believe that on weekends this joint would be jumping!
Much thanks must go to the helpful staff who could see that the weather had us well and truly frazzled and ensured that our dining experience was a good one.
