This was my second time visiting River View Seafood Restaurant. My family and I had just made a forty minute drive from home, all the way to Kuala Selangor so my parents could do some seafood shopping.
The town of Pasir Penambang, on the banks of the Selangor River, was bustling with activity on this Sunday evening. The area is well known for its fresh sea catch, with many of the shoplots jutting out into the river behind, where their fishing boats can dock with the day's haul.
River View Seafood Restaurant is one of a few restaurants dotted around the town, boasting fresh caught seafood and an extensive menu. The restaurant is open air, so you can enjoy the breeze and a view of the Selangor River. You know you're at the right place once you see the large crab sculpture eyeing you beadily as you stroll down the main street.
The first dish to arrive was the deep fried squid, which was gulped down so fast, I didn't get a chance to snap a photo! The squid was sweet and fresh, with a tasty batter. I am a huge fan of fried squid, so this was a must-have.
A balanced meal isn't complete without veggies, so we also ordered the kangkung belacan. This was really good with the steamed rice.
The highlight of the meal though was definitely the fresh milk crab. It is basically crab cooked in a sweet, savoury milk and curry leaf sauce. Size of the crab differs sometimes when we visit, depending on the catch - the first time we came it was much bigger, and so was our subsequent visit after this one. There were about three crabs here I think, shared between five of us. The crabmeat was very juicy, and the highlight was definitely the creamy, spiced sauce.
The restaurant is a bit of a drive away from the city, but worth a visit, especially if you are going seafood shopping. There are a number of tourist attractions around too, like eagle watching and firefly cruises if you want to make more of a trip out of it. There are a lot of other things on the menu here too, that's definitely worth a try.
