For many, River Island is a childhood memory, for some, it is where they met their spouse and for others it is a bright memory of their time in the Australian outback. It is unmistakeably a memorable place. River Island is a clothing optional outback 'resort' with 2,000 acres of beautiful bush crawling with Australian native animals and breath taking sceneries 40km drive from Mittagong.
For those of us that remember River Island from our childhood; the price hikes are the only evidence that River Island is aging with the rest of society. A cheap weekend at River Island in the back of your ute or in a tent will set you back about $60 for an adult and $20 each child with and expensive luxury cabin costing about $300 for a weekend with accommodation also available for budget ranges in between. However, which ever you go with, you will have access to the 3 spas, the heated pool, the larger non-heated pool, the river, the incredible bush trails and sometimes the sauna.
River Island prides it's self on being a family atmosphere and there are regular families so if your a male you would be best off to bring your woman along as single men may cause for alarm and are often kicked off the property.
There are two noticeable scenes; the quiet, to themselves nature lovers and the social sparks. If you want some time by yourself with nature than through the middle of a week is a great time to visit river island, the 4wheel driving tracks are too die for and there are very few people out and about during the week, so you will pretty much have that whole 2,000 acres to yourself! If that's not you and your not too shy to throw yourself into the deep end socializing with hundreds of naked people in a night than a long weekend is for you! Special events are often run and this is the best time to meet with a broad range of ages but often have an extra fee.
New Year's Eve at River Island is huge. It is the best night on their Calender and has the largest turn out. If you plan to come for an event like this you will need to book via their website: RiverIsland.com.au
Totally agree ..except that RINR is not in the outback!! spent my childhood at River Island frst visiting when I was 2yrs old (Im 27 now) and my little brother married another RINR goer just last week. The price hikes are appauling and with out any loyalty program even if we are staying in our parents cabins we were charged full price and still treated as children by the owners... The sauna is rarely open, the spas in winter are the same, the owners are getting older and the effort put into the place is less nad less meanwhile the prices keep goin up!!I loved this place and the best memories I have are of holidays at RINR. These times are the highlight of my life! There is a group of over 40 of us who have been going there our whole lives and due to the mistreatment of 'staff' we unfortunalely no longer return. The best thing that could happen to this place is for new owners to take over.....

Yeah agree. The place has not changed much over the years and the number of people there has reduced significantly. The price increases are really in line with CPI so can't complain about that too much, however, the place is tired and needs a makeover. Will need someone with enthusiasm to takeover from the current owners. Should they move on it is likely the place would close
