I am a hungry artist living and working in Sydney. I am completing a philosophy degree and enjoy life.

The Stylish Spot to be for the Movies
Located in the busy restaurant district of Randwick known as 'The Spot', The Ritz Cinema is an Art Deco Icon. The stunning architecture is completely original and beautiful. It is lovely to see a historic cinema still in use. They show all the latest films that you would see at a Village Cinema or Hoyts. They have a cheap Tuesday with all tickets only $10. The prices are slightly cheaper than you will find in the bigger cinema chains. Most of the theatres are as large and spacious as you will find in Village or Hoyts. They are just as comfortable too and are tastefully decorated in Art Deco style. The lights and curtains are just adorable. The nice aesthetic adds to the experience. You feel like you are having a little luxury in your day (some people even dress up for the occasion although most of the locals just wear casual clothing).

The Ritz snack bar features everything you would expect with the standard movies popcorn, chocolates, lollies and soft drinks available, however, they also offer their own more original snacks. They have homemade sandwiches, rocky road, and homemade choc tops that are just delightful in the berry flavour. They make a decent coffee too. The prices are reasonable with many combo deals available.

The Ritz Cinemas in The Spot are also a fully licenced venue so you can bring your drink from the bar into the movie (you will need to pour it into a plastic cup that they provide though). The upstairs bar is comfortable and well furnished. One Friday night when all the restaurants around were packed my friends and I thought we had found the one under-frequented bar in The Spot. Sadly there was good reason for this. Give the cocktails a miss. They are not the best and take a long time to prepare. You would be better off ordering wine or a glass of beer. However, they do offer a tasty cheese platter so having a wine and cheese session in the movie seems like a pleasant thing to do. The wines that they have are of a good quality and the beer is as good as you will get at any other bar in Sydney.

The movies that are showing at The Ritz are all the latest ones, so if you are in the area or know someone who loves to do things in style then The Ritz Cinemas in The Spot are for you. The area is frequented by buses that go directly from the city - the 373 or 377 will get you to The Spot from Hyde Park in the city in about half an hour and the buses that depart opposite The Sweet Spot Patisserie will get you back to the city; they are run well past midnight every night. So if you happen to catch a late night session don't worry, there is ample public transport available for you.

Your Comment
I visited this cinema recently, it's great and movie ticket prices are better than the main stream cinemas. Cheers Marie
