Fun fact: the lethal dose (LD50) as tested in rats is 30 grams per kilogram of mass, administered orally. For a typical Australian male of 85 kilograms (accordingly to the Australian Bureau of Statistics), this would equate to orally consuming approximately 2.4 kilograms of sugar in one sitting. To an everyday person who hasn't been to
Rise & Grind Espresso Bar in Doubleview, this may seem exorbitant... However, the everyday folk may never have met the
"Type II" milkshake – but they should.
seem hell-bent vying to push limits with just how much deliciousness a human being can take in one sitting (if only it were somehow quantifiable in numbers, I swear, this would make my job so much simpler...). That, and any 'bar' with a focus on espresso is my kind of bar!
Bask in the ambience of the morning sun gently met with the Scarborough breeze (your furry friends are also more than welcome), or sprawl out on the couches soaking in the laidback tunes. You can take home a copy of their "Loaded" recipe book for all things pleasing to the sweet tooth.
Further noteworthy is the drinks menu being longer than the food menu! Every variety of tea and coffee your heart could ever desire, chai, fresh cold pressed juices, loaded milkshakes, frappes, smoothies and two particularly intriguing slushies – the
'Cold Pressed Granita' made with *
actual* fruits (gasp!) including mangos and oranges and a
'Strawberries & Cream' made with berry slushie topped with vanilla thick shake.
The menu seems to frequently change, also which is all the more inspiration to head in on a regular basis.
Keep your eyes peeled for Sylvia, one of R&G's resident bad-ass baristas who, despite ever-so-humbly cautioning that she "hasn't been in the coffee game long", produces the perfect pour each and every time with a beaming smile to boot. We love your work!
