Rippon Lea House is an old Romanesque suburban mansion built in 1868 and located just 20 minutes from the CBD in Elsternwick.

Once you've paid the $12 entry fee the magnificent gardens and impressive house form a great backdrop for a picnic with friends or family.

Before settling down on your preferred patch of grass you can tour the house and gardens, soaking up the atmosphere of colonial opulence and ease.

Read more about the history of Rippon Lea here, or learn more about why it's such an important part of the National Trust.

See this page for information on the best way to get to Rippon Lea.

Why? Hard to beat as a backdrop for a relaxed picnic.
