The Ripples Schools Program , which is part of the overall Words on the Waves Literary Festival has been announced. This year, the program’s theme is The Ripple Effect - and is designed to inspire the next generation of readers, artists and storytellers on the Central Coast of NSW. The program will offer an engaging, educational and interactive day filled with author talks, workshops and all sorts of bookish activities aimed at primary school students as they explore the world of literature with fantastic Australian authors and illustrators.

Primary school groups who are able to attend the Ripples program at the Ourimbah campus of the University of Newcastle, and be able to attend talks by authors and illustrators, as well as workshops led by the authors and illustrators, where they can experiment with their creativity.

The author talks are held by a select group of authors and illustrators who want to talk about their craft and engage with the students in groups of sixty to three hundred people. The workshops are a space for authors and illustrators to share their knowledge in an intensive and hands-on context – and will cater to smaller groups of up to thirty students. These workshops will encourage young people to open their imaginations and be bold in their creative writing – and hopefully, they will have some creative output.

And every session will have a connection to the NSW curriculum for grades three to six. This year, the program is being offered as a day pass, with an entry fee of $20 per student for two author or illustrator talks, and one creative writing or illustration workshop.
