The crowd eagerly awaiting Mick Fanning's presentation of the bell

Now, I'm aware Easter is well and truly over, but you need to know that in Melbourne, there's more to the long weekend then stuffing your faces with chocolate. It's Ripcurl Pro time baby!

Starting in the early days of April, with the finals falling on the long weekend, the Pro is Torquay's biggest event.

Whether you love surfing, or just love looking at surfers, being at the event is an invigorating feeling. The energy throughout the place is crazy. There's people dancing in the beer tent, tourists scrambling to buy any form of merchandise, kids hunting down autographs and the general hysteria from supporters going crazy over the surfers doing what they do best, surf.

And the best surfing was of course seen in the men's final, and the prize is of course the famed bell trophy. We had American Kelly Slater verses Australian Mick Fanning, two of the biggest names in the surfing world. It had been eleven years since Mick had last rung the bell so he was hungry for a win, and the crowd was hungrier to see him win, and that famous swell was pumping.

Now I don't know any of the technical names of the tricks these guys did, but there were some crazy turns, some big aerial tricks and a lot of "OOOOOOH" and "WOOOAHH" from the crowd. Honestly, just do yourself a favour and jump on the Ripcurl website where you can watch the final for yourself.

It was a close final, but in the end our Aussie took home the bell! It was such an incredible moment being there watching him accept his trophy, you could sense in the air that this was becoming a historic moment of surfing. It's already been called the best final in Bells history. And the golden rule was of course upheld. The only person to ring the bell is the winner of the Pro, and boy did the crowd go crazy when Mick took that trophy and gave it a banging.

Gotta win it to ring it!

Now I'm sure you'll be wondering what else is on offer in Torquay when the event is finished? Everything! This is the best time of year to be in Torquay. The pubs are busy, the restaurants are full and of course the beaches are always beautiful. So do yourself a favour, next Easter ditch the eggs and drag the family and friends down to the Ripcurl Pro.
