This was mostly a good article but it fell down a bit towards the end when characterising opposition to masks as being due to contrariness. There are other reasons. One friend told me her mother won't wear a mask as it triggers her claustrophobia. They also make it harder for people with respiratory problems, e.g. asthmatics, to breathe.

This is not opposition to mask wearing as a general thing, but an individual with a genuine medical or personal reason for not wearing a mask. It is unlikely that a person who has respiratory problems would object to the government general rule about masks, if an exception for their valid is allowed.

Psychological issues, such as claustrophobia can be a particularly strong reason for not wearing a mask for an individual. We should always be mindful of the fact that people not wearing masks might have a valid reason.

However, mild respiratory issues are not seen by healthcare professionals as an excuse. There are a variety of masks, and loosely wrapped bandana will meet the requirements of mask wearing without causing deep respiratory issues.
