As spring transforms into summer, the sunny days are an ideal time for the family to get outdoors.

The Bupa Ride About Events are offering multiple opportunities for families to have fun together over three cycling events travelling on some of Adelaide's scenic cycling trails. During each ride there are fun and interesting challenges and activities happening along the trails including treasure and scavenger hunts, as well as other fun activities for audlts and children. After the ride, you can satisfy that post ride hunger with a healthy picnic pack available from the Ride About Village in Elder Park, where there will be entertainment for all the family between the hours of 9am and 2pm.

Park Lands Ride About
Following the Park Lands Trail, the ride passes some of Adelaide's famous locations, including the Adelaide Zoo, the Botanic Gardens and the Old Adelaide Gaol. If you need a break, you can pause at the playgrounds or kiosks are located on the trail. Officially starting and ending at the Ride About Village in Elder Park, the 16km ride might be too challenging for little legs, so you can start anywhere along the route on your way to the Elder Park Village. If the legs get too tired on the long trail, you can always take a shortcut back to the Village from the southern Parklands and head back to Elder Park via King William Road for an 11km ride.

If your inner pirate enjoys a treasure hunt, look out for the clues leading to locations along the trail where you can collect markers for your treasure map. For just $10 per adult (and half price if you are a Bupa member), you can register online to be part of the fun. Children under 15, who are accompained by an adult, can ride for free. This is the first of three Ride About events and for those who register for all three rides, the last ride is free for the whole family.

As you cycle along the trail, you might see the rowing teams practicing on the river and a variety of swans, ducks, pelicans and other birds watching your progress. The challenge on this ride, should you choose to accept it, is to participate in the four activity stations on the trail. Brush up on your Bocce and Quoits skills to perform well at the first activity station. Walk tall on stilts and test your team work on the Geeta boards at Station 2. Speed and agility is required for Station 3, where egg and spoon races and sack races are just a couple of the events to conquer before arriving to play the giant boards games at Station 4.
