Taking the place of Burger It , Ricky's Chicken Rice at North Adelaide is the fourth branch to be opened in Adelaide. The other branches are located at Adelaide Central Market Food Court , Southern Cross Food Court and Churchill Centre Food Court . The North Adelaide branch is notably the first branch that is not situated within a food court, allowing diners to enjoy their dishes in a setting away from the hustle and bustle of a food court.

As expected, Hainanese Chicken Rice is a key dish on the menu and can be ordered with steamed or fried chicken. The steamed chicken breast option that we ordered had very tender chicken and rice that had sufficient "chicken rice" flavour to make eating this dish satisfying. Accompanying the dish were chilli sauce and the store's signature green ginger sauce to enhance the flavour of the chicken, rice and cucumber.



One of the popular Singapore and Malaysian noodle dishes on the menu, Ricky's Char Kway Teow had a delectable charred flavour and all the ingredients were fried just right. The flat rice noodles had a hint of chewiness and the caramel soy sauce lifted the flavour of the ingredients without overwhelming them. Beansprouts and a scattering of fried shallots added crunch to the dish.



The use of vermicelli noodles in their Mi Hoon Goreng gave the dish a softer texture compared to the Char Kway Teow, with the tofu and prawns adding a bit of firmness. The sauce the noodles were fried in had a bit of a spicy kick but the degree of spiciness should still be suitable for most diners.



This branch of Ricky's Chicken Rice also offers a few Korean dishes. Among them is Pa-Jeon, a prawn and spring onion pancake. The pancake had a texture that was a bit similar to an omelette and was complemented well by the prawns and spring onions in the batter. If you desire to add a bit of saltiness, you can dip the pancake in the soy sauce provided before eating it.



The full menu was not yet available during our visit. The restaurant plans to include a few more Korean dishes at a later date. A dish that we are interested in trying is their Hodduk, a Korean dessert pancake with a filling of cinnamon and crushed nuts. We intend to return for a second visit when these dishes are available.
