Retro at Rick's at Palmwoods
Where does one start to describe this amazing "Diner" in Palmwoods, on the Sunshine Coast? A little history – it was originally a garage where folks came to buy petrol and have their cars serviced – and now is an amazing place to dine, drink, meet with friends and family, be entertained and explore the extraordinary collection of items throughout the building.
There's no petrol there now, but the garage is still operating downstairs, but it is the diner. It has a collection of so many things but the bar, the dining room, the function room and the outdoor beer garden attract most people – plus the awesome food.
Motoring or history buffs will have a lot of fun exploring everything, and if you have flexible neck muscles you can explore the photos on the ceiling! Rick's is open 7 days a week from 10 am until late, and they suggest you phone to book if you wish to dine after 7 pm.
Much is written and spoken about the awesome burgers, which sadly I didn't indulge in. But I will be back to do so – when I have someone with me who will share the burger! All reports are that the food is great. Certainly the cakes and desserts in the glass cabinet looked good.
What's on? It's Happy Hour between 4 pm and 6 pm, and on Thursdays it is "Open Mic" for locals. On Fridays, it is Rockabilly/Retro and Rides Night, time to dress up and enjoy the Rockabilly Band from 6 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, there are Car and Bike Club events, with Live Music in the Garden.
