Richards Park is a large park in Maylands, and it is only a short drive or walk away from the Adelaide CBD. You'll find most essential amenities at the park, and it is easily somewhere that you could spend a few hours with the kids. It is both a lovely place to relax, and a fun place to play.

The park is located just off of Magill Road, and so it is close to plenty of places along this strip. It can be a lovely spot to have a picnic. There are multiple picnic tables spread throughout the park, and you also have access to barbecues. If you bring along a blanket or rug, you can set yourself up anywhere in the park, and enjoy your natural surroundings. Fortunately the park is also equipped with well maintained toilets, that make longer stays at the park far more viable.

The playground at Richards Park is nothing special, but that doesn't mean kids won't find it fun. There is a slide, some swings, and monkey bars and climbing frames. Here you'll find all the usual play equipment that kids love, it just isn't put together in a particularly inspiring way. While you'll find plenty more whimsical playgrounds not too far away from Richards Park, this remains a great place to picnic with the kids.

You can enjoy other activities at the park like ball games. There is plenty of open space, so you could enjoy a game of footy or soccer on the grass. You wouldn't be able to set up a full match, but could easily have a friendly kick around of the ball. There are also riding paths that make there way through the path, and it can be a good place to teach the kids how to ride.

The park is well maintained with good facilities and beautiful features. There are some really nice places to just sit and relax, and there is an off-leash area for dogs between 6pm and 9am every day. If you're looking for a central location that is great for a family picnic, then escape the city and head up the road to Richards Park.

To find more parks or playgrounds in the area head to the City of Norwood, Payneham, & St. Peters Website.
