Cheap eat for students
Rice Workshop is a Japanese fusion place owned by David Loh. David Loh also owns Shophouse Kitchen, Food Republik and Dessert Story.

The restaurant is in Chinatown, near Ferdyduke.

The place is quite small from the outside, but they do have two levels of seating inside. The bathrooms are on the second level and are at the back.

I was recently invited to the launch party which involved sampling most of what they have on offer, except for the sushi and oysters which can be found on their regular menu.

The service was very friendly with a smile and the girls welcome their customers with "Iradashimee!" (a Japanese greeting meaning welcome).

Food is relatively cheap for a hungry student or a worker. Meals are priced from $6-$10 depending on what you order and depending on what sides you add. The meals are mainly rice based and they have favourites such as terriyaki, tonkatsu or tempura on rice. On the night that I went, I really loved everything on offer.

I wonder what happened to Kimukuran? That place is now closed and Rice Workshop has taken its place. Do go and try this wonderful place and good luck to David. I hope this place survives.
