Just a short walk from the beach in the laid back little town of Brunswick Heads is a fantastic little Indonesian restaurant called Rice. We had planned on take away fish and chips in the park, but at the sight of something more flavoursome, I dug in my heels. We were all glad that I did!

We started with the salt & pepper squid, and I was delighted it wasn't coated in a mass of batter. The spices are liberally applied so it's fresh yet tasty.

We also had the whitebait special, that even the kids devoured eagerly. Again, not heavy on the batter, showcasing the flavour of the fish.

We followed with a Nam Jim Salad with King Prawns, fresh and filling, yet not too heavy.

The whole snapper was cooked to perfection with the outside crispy and herb encrusted, while the flesh still succulent, served with delicious coconut rice.

My son, less keen on the spices went with the Pineapple Fried Rice, and not a grain was left on the plate!

There is both indoor and outdoor seating, and licensed or BYO. There is also a steady stream of take away, proving how popular this restaurant is.

I loved this restaurant, and it was the perfect antidote to too many meals of fish & chips or burgers. I thoroughly recommend spending an afternoon on the near empty beach at Brunswick Heads, then head over the road for a deliciously spicy meal for a change. There is such a thing as too much fish & chips!
