Ribena: The Strawberry Drink with a Mysterious Taste
What happens when you give six Americans a bottle of Ribena?

Well, my friends and I are now big fans of the drink, but we had some trouble understanding how it works. "What could be so complicated about drinking juice?" you might ask. But, even though Ribena is delicious, it is no ordinary juice.

We first discovered it at a local restaurant near Edgware road, where it was served in cute little juice cartons at a low price. We loved the strawberry flavour, so we wanted to buy larger cartons to bring back to our flat. We finally found 1L bottles of Ribena at Waitrose for only £2.86, which was a good price for a delicious drink to be shared by my five flatmates and I.

As we excitedly poured ourselves glasses of Ribena and drank our first sips, our faces twisted in confusion. "Why is it so sweet?!" we all wondered. We tried to figure out if we bought the wrong drink, the wrong flavour, or an expired bottle. Finally, one of us checked the label on the back, which reads in tiny print: "Directions for use - follow carefully: Dilute 1 part (50ml) Ribena with at least 4 parts water to give a 250ml serving."

In plain English, the directions say to pour a tiny bit of Ribena into a glass with mostly water. After banging our heads with embarrassment, we followed the directions and found the secret to the fantastic taste of Ribena. I recommend the strawberry flavoured drink, but make sure to follow the directions carefully...oops!
