Tasty, lazy breakfast, lunch and coffee
A small café with the local feel, Rhapsody's offers good service, friendly staff and above all great food. Away from the bustle and bustle of Lygon Street, is Rhapsody's Cafe, located in Carlton North.
On a lazy Sunday morning, sitting outside looking at the beautiful tree-lined street is a great way to enjoy your weekend. At the quieter end of Rathdowne Street, sitting in the chairs outside, you would swear you were in a quaint country town far away from heart of Melbourne's busy Italian precinct.
The café was established as a family business. They describe their café as having a warm African ambiance, which can easily be seen when you walk through the doors. The warm earthy colours on the walls help create a warm cosy atmosphere.
As much as the ambiance is important, the food is the most important aspect of all and Rhapsody's food is delicious.
Breakfast is just heavenly. Breakfast meals range from typical big breakfasts – eggs, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages etc. to the more adventurous: Avocado smash, corn fritters, brioche sliders etc… scrumptious French toast and strawberry hotcakes for those of you with a sweet tooth.
We tried the strawberry hotcakes which were delicious. Whether you have them for dessert or for a sweet treat, you will not regret it. The strawberries are not only on top but inside the ricotta hotcakes. They are topped with mascarpone and it all just melts in your mouth.
The corn fritters are served with avocado and bacon layered between the corn fritters, with a zesty coleslaw on the side.
Rhapsody's Café also offers vegetarian meals as well as gluten free options.
They also offer a diverse lunch menu from ready-made focaccias ready to be toasted to pulled lamb wrap, salmon and quinoa cakes, slowed cooked lamb shanks or various other tasty dishes.
For those of you who are coffee connoisseurs, this is the place to go. Rhapsody's makes delicious coffee. They also offer a rewards system for frequent coffee drinkers.
They also makes fresh juices, milkshakes and they have a range of delicious teas - malabar chai, english breakfast, peppermint, chamomile blossom, dolong rose, supreme earl grey, oriental jasmine green, fruits of eden, and lemongrass and ginger.
So whether you are a local and you want to try something new, or looking for a new weekend breakfast spot, pop in to Rhapsody's Café and try some of their delicious coffee and food (and relish!).
