Nambour Lind Lane Theatre's next offering is based on a true and tragic story.
The Revlon Girl is a touching and cathartic play by Neil Anthony Docking. It is set in 1966 in Aberfan, a Welsh mining village where an enormous slag heap collapsed and slid down the mountain, burying 144 people. The school was right in its path, and 116 children died.
Docking's intelligent and sensitive script examines grief and the hoped-for recovery from every angle and was thoroughly researched, to present the facts as they unfold throughout the play. Audiences will be drawn into what really happened and imagine the distraught parents frantically trying to find their buried children.
Naomi Clasohm, Kathryn Barnes, Robyn Hungerford and Christine Lyn play bereaved mothers meeting weekly upstairs in the recreation room of the Aberfan Hotel, to support each other, to talk, cry, and laugh without feeling guilty.
One of them suggests that because they've 'let themselves go', they should invite the Revlon make-up consultant (played by Riette de Jager) to come along and give them some fresh tips to brighten up their lives.
Director Glenda Campi has selected five fine actors who reflect the real-life women at the heart of this story. The combination of Docking's clever scripting and Campi's intuitive direction of the play provides many thought-provoking moments and touches the heart.
The season runs from April 22 - 30 and tickets may be purchased online at
