'Contained' - aptly named after the shipping container she performed in, was Zoe Pelbart's first attempt at a full-length festival show, so I wasn't sure what to expect. A mashup of old jokes and new concepts, performed by nervy twenty something, perhaps? Maybe some tacky sketches to help fill out the hour? But, from the moment Zoe took the stage it was clear she knew exactly what she was doing.

With a stage persona reminiscent of Janeane Garofalo, Zoe is relaxed, likeable and makes the audience feel at ease. She seamlessly weaves through a web of topics as broad as public transport, karma and the male equivalent of the wonder bra. Her act feels more like a great conversation than a monologue.

The show was well structured, layered and culminated in a 'revolution against a-holes' piece featuring an array of 'callbacks' that brought the show to great climax and a very tidy finish.

Zoe Pelbart is the real deal. No props, no gimmicks just honest, intelligent & utterly hilarious stand up comedy. Go and see her next show. She is a star on the rise.
