Although Western Australia boasts several well-known artists' havens such as Fremantle, Margaret River and Broome, there are many other locations which remain well-kept secrets to all but a select few. Covering a vast area spanning the tropical far north, to the central desert country and temperate forests of the Great Southern region, the state is home for a great number ofcreative folk, many who are from an Indigenous background and live in regional and remote communities. Many of these communities incorporate thriving arts centres at which artists, old and young, work in a wide variety of creative media. However, despite the talent of these artists, due to their geographical isolation, they don't receive much exposure in the wider art world.
This month, a series of unique events,
Revealed, will be held in the Perth Cultural Precinct, which aim to showcase the talents of new and emerging Indigenous artists and the arts centres at which they work.
Revealed will begin with a symposium on Friday April 12 featuring presentations from artists, remote art centres and various specialists in the field, an exhibition of works by emerging artists and finally a marketplace where works can be purchased.
Beginning on April 13 and continuing until May 4 2013 at the Gallery Central in the Central Institute of Technology, the
Revealed art exhibition will represent artists from a diverse range of Aboriginal language groups who work in media ranging from painting to sculpture and textile arts. All artworks in the exhibition are for sale.
If you love contemporary Indigenous Australian art and the ancient, complex cultures from which it has developed, you'll definitely want to attend this special series of free events. There are more than twenty art centres situated in communities throughout Western Australia, and
Revealed is a rare opportunity to appreciate works from their artists, all in one place. To learn more about
