Thomas Fuller, historian, was quoted as saying "
you never know the worth of water till the well is dry"; same goes for the amount of trash humans throw out in a lifetime. In the past, it would have gone into landfill and never broken down, but today we are more conscious of what is happening to our environment and what we can reuse or up-cycle.

Fortunately. there are places like Reuse and Recycle Group Inc on the
Fraser Coast, whose goal is to change the way people think about waste by implementing processes of sustainability and environmental benefits into the community. The group reduce landfill waste while also providing opportunities for training, employment and volunteering across the Fraser Coast Region. Not only does the group sell items, but they also re-craft recyclables into unique projects for community use.

I visited on a Sunday in Maryborough and for no particular purpose other than to have a look around and perhaps find a bargain or something I could not live without. I did come away with a purchase of two light rusty metal items that I could see as a gate to nowhere in the garden at home.

The land on which the Saltwater Creek Road business is situated is huge with masses of recycling building materials, old iron, hardwood, pine, tiles and bricks etc. If you needed a whipper snipper or an old mower, there was plenty to choose from along with pushbikes, golf clubs and plastic chairs. Inside the metal shed and out of the weather, there was an abundant supply of lounge seats, furniture, kitchen and electrical items, books, computers and more. One idea I have used in the past was obtaining the metal basin from the inside of an old washing machine or dryer, painting the outside or even glueing small tiles to the outside, creating a crafty large pot plant holder. I saw plenty of these at the Saltwater Creek Road premises.

Parking is free on-site and you can drive your car over to the building materials area to load larger items. One of the business's staff is always roving with an ATM machine and printer, giving receipts even if only for a small amount. When renovating, it is handy to look back on what you have spent.
