The Retro Market and Swingin' Christmas Ball will be held at the Albert Hall, Yarralumla. This grand historical building built in 1928 is the perfect location for these two events, with the old school charm of a bygone era.
The Retro Market will be held in the day and then by night there will be a Swingin' Christmas Ball celebrating the 100th anniversary of Frank Sinatra with "Old Blue Eyes Meets The Queen Of Jazz" as the theme.
Canberra's own Tony Haley and Leisa Keen will be singing in front of the 18 piece
ConneXion Big Band , to get the party swinging. The two vocalists will be singing all the Frank Sinatra classics and others from that era. Tony Haley is a well known Canberra singer who sings Frank Sinatra songs as his specialty and Leisa Keen is another popular local jazz vocalist who will raise the roof with her big band sound.
Another highlight of the night will be Canberra Swing Katz who will be bringing the joy of swing dance to the hall and inspiring everyone to get up and dance.
Canberra Swing Katz have their own dance classes in Dickson and perform at shows and events around the Capital.
I have personally been fortunate enough to experience the Canberra Swing Katz twice in the last year here in Canberra. They brought the party to the Royal Australian Mint's "Party like its 1965" 50th anniversary night, with performances and tutorials which got the government building hopping. At Floriade they performed on Stage 88, once again bringing people to her feet. At both events they brought the party with them, so their swing dancing on the night will get Albert Hall rockin'.
