Restaurante Palapa el Mazunte

Being in Mazunte isn't all about the beach, but it is certainly a big reason to be here. There are a few places to eat on or near the playa, but this restaurant is one of the best and is particularly recommended for its seafood.

They also serve great juices. This one was with Nopal, the local cactus which is served as a salad or a main course and can also be taken as a drink. It is absolutely full of nutrients and is a really great healthy option. Sometimes it can be a bit slimy when it is cooked so taking it in the form of a juice, maybe mixed with mango or orange can really get you the health benefits without the slight icky texture!

the beach

As you can see, this place is right on the sand so you are really in the thick of it. It is great to be so close to the waves as some of the other restaurants are a bit further back, not giving you the full feel of the location.

Tlayuda time!

I tried the shrimp Tlayuda. This local dish is a large tortilla filled with veggies, beans and in this case, shrimp. It is folded over and grilled so that it is crispy and you can eat it with your hands after adding whichever level of spicy salsa you can stand - delicious!

Why? Great fish right on the beach
Cost: Reasonable for the location
