Event:

These days we hear of more restaurants closing than opening.

Hospitality is a tough industry to crack and if you want to know how to achieve long term success, you need on-going support and expert advice.

Helping new and prospective operators is the Restaurant & Catering Association of South Australia (RCSA) and in particular, their three-hour training program entitled 'Restaurant Bootcamp', which will be held on Tuesday 18th of February 2014 from 10am to 1pm. The venue for the day's events will be Rigoni's Bistro.

Throughout the day participants will hear from 6 guest speakers:

'Set-up' presented by Tony Bailey, Rigoni's Bistro 10am

Tony started his training at 16 in one of Queenstown's premier venues Skyline Restaurant and Gondola.

After a range of experiences in restaurants and resorts he went into partnership to restore and rebuild Rigoni's Bistro where he is today.

In this presentation, Tony will offer expert advice on location, menus and branding. Business planning and exit strategies will also be discussed at length.

'Money' presented by Andrew Russo, Kennedy & Co 10.30am

Andrew Russo is a Business Strategist with Kennedy & Co Chartered Accountants. He has a number of clients in the hospitality industry and offers coaching and mentoring and facilitates Growth and Profit Solutions for them.

In this presentation Andrew will explore all things finance; from how much you need to start with, to how long it will take to start making a return. Other related topics discussed include cash flow and the benefits and limitations of fit-out and equipment leasing, hire purchase and outright purchase.

'Legal compliance' presented by Lisa Dowdy from Donaldson Walsh 11am

Lisa has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce (Corporate Finance and Accounting) from the University of Adelaide. Prior to commencing practice in 2006, Lisa worked for McGuigan Simeon Wines.

As a Senior Associate in Donaldson Walsh's Commercial team, Lisa specialises in Hospitality Law.

In this presentation, Lisa will discuss a variety of legal issues, including lease of space, equipment, licences, trade waste and Work Health & Safety.

'Approvals Journey' presented by Kris Schulte and Janaki Benson, City Planning Adelaide City Council 11.30am

Kris Schulte (Building Surveying Officer) and Janaki Benson (Planning Officer) work within the City Planning Program.

In this presentation, Kris and Janaki will discuss where new and prospective operators can get the right advice and get to the Development Approval finish line without any road blocks.

'Marketing' presented by Peter Withy - KWP! 12 noon
Peter Withy -

After 42 years in advertising, there is little Peter hasn't encountered.

In this presentation Peter will discuss all forms of advertising, including social media and word of mouth, as well as overall brand strategy.

Interactive panel with experienced operators prepared to discuss what they would have liked to know more about at set up. 12.30pm.

The complete event program can be viewed here.

This training program may discourage some from starting up but that's a better option than going broke. The 'Restaurant Bootcamp' is a must attend for new operators or anyone who wants to know more about the sector.

Bookings are essential: click here to download the registration form.

The participation fee is $100 for non-members and is free to attend for (RCSA) members.
