Rest in Pieces is hitting the road and bringing a 3 day taxidermy extravaganza to Adelaide!
From the 17th to the 19th of November, you are invited to take part in an interactive and engaging weekend of taxidermy and entomology workshops.
This is a special opportunity to get up close and hands-on with age-old practices which remain macabre to some, but strangely beautiful to others. No previous taxidermy or entomology skills are needed and all are welcome to participate in the workshops.
The schedule for the weekend is as follows:
Learn about the practice and history of taxidermy in an illustrated talk, followed by a skinning demonstration. This presentation is not for the squeamish, but will fascinate those with a healthy curiosity and an open mind.
Discover the fascinating art form of taxidermy.
Learn how to skin and preserve a little rat, as well as how to mount him/her into a beautiful but very greedy cheese fiend.
Enjoy a butterfly and moth pinning workshop. Learn how to rehydrate three specimens, how to create a own pinning board, how to pin specimens in 3 different styles and learn how to unpin and present your chosen feature specimen in a shadow box.
At the end of the day, you will walk away with the 3 practice butterflies and your chosen feature specimen (Ulysses Butterfly or Death's Head Hawkmoth). You will also take home a shadow box to mount your beautiful creation in.
Bookings are now open for each workshop and early bookings are encouraged.
As usual, the Rest in Pieces team will take care of everything required to complete your workshop including all necessary tools along with your specimens, apron, snacks and wine.
