Are you ready for a brand new creative endeavour? Rest in Pieces is excited to announce the return of their popular 2-day Corrosion Casting Workshop in Sydney on the weekend of 21 and 22 November 2020. Reserve your place today.
This is a special opportunity to learn the scientific process of corrosion casting alongside Scientist Gavin Burland, who will share some of his extensive knowledge gained over more than 15 years working with plastination techniques, museum preparation techniques, anatomical embalming and dissection.Gavin is currently the Manager of Technical Operations at the Sydney School of Veterinary Science (University of Sydney) and President of the Australasian Institute of Anatomical Sciences .
You don't need to have any previous corrosion casting experience to take part in this workshop. Gavin will teach you basic sheep pluck anatomy, while guiding you through the correct process of preparing, injecting, macerating and installing your specimen.
Here's what to expect: Throughout day one (1:00pm - 9:00pm), you will learn how to identify the anatomy, prepare the specimen and inject the heart with resin. Gavin will end the day with an informative seminar on the history of corrosion casting and the process of chemical maceration. On day two (11:00am - 6:00pm), you will clean and prepare your own pre-macerated specimen, ready for mounting. You will end the day by learning the basics of installation. At the end of the weekend, you will walk away with a deeper knowledge of this fascinating scientific process and your very own gorgeous corrosion cast heart in a glass dome.
As usual, the friendly Rest in Pieces team will take care of everything for you. Everything will be supplied including your sheep pluck, tools and materials, an apron, dinner (Saturday), light lunch (Sunday) and a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages so that you can sit back, relax and enjoy the weekend. (Note, alcoholic beverages are only available for students aged 18 years and over).
Bookings are now open for the Corrosion Casting Workshop, which will be held at Work-shop HQ in Redfern. Click here to secure your place today. Payment plan options are available at the checkout. It is well structured and paced for people of any level of previous knowledge in anatomy or this process. Gavin who runs the course is extremely knowledgeable and discusses/demonstrates the process in a way that anyone can understand the process. It also lets you meet and interact with many friendly like-minded individuals who you can openly discuss related topics with. I highly recommend this workshop. DavidThis is my second class with RIP and Nat is always great to work with. Gavin is incredibly knowledgeable about what he does, and the class is very easy to follow, even if you have no real medical/science background. It's also pretty amazing to be able to learn something that's not really taught anywhere else. Jardine
