In the extremely beautiful Prague Old Town you'll find lots of historic gems. One such place is the . Close to the Charles Bridge in the heart of the tourist area, this is a magnificent hotel perfect for a romantic getaway. This four-star hotel in fourteenth-century buildings even features in some of the guidebooks. With just fourteen rooms and a further six executive suites, it is small, unique, and utterly gorgeous.

The hotel is split over two buildings. One houses the standard and deluxe rooms, another the executive suites. It is halfway up a steep hill, but does put you within a few minutes of Prague Castle. Inside the hotel are lots more stairs, and no lift facilities, so it is not fully accessible.

The hotel has air conditioning, hairdryers, safety deposit boxes and LCD Satellite TVs as standard. Water is left in the rooms, which is important as there are no hotel catering facilities. Many rooms have four poster beds. If you want to guarantee a bath rather than a shower then you need to upgrade from a standard room.

Everything about this hotel is sumptuous and tended with care. There is good WiFi in all rooms, for example. A range of tourist information is easily available from reception. Every room has a character of its own, with careful attention paid to even the smallest detail, like how to arrange the towels.

The name comes from the house symbol. Back before house numbers, grand residences across Prague were known by symbols instead. The green lobster is still visible on the exective suite building, and provides a memorable sign for the rest of the hotel as well. Note that the main reception and rooms are in the building opposite this one. While you walk up and down the road, look out for the other house signs too.

Everything about the buildings is gorgeous. In general, they are updated to be of a high standard. The Albrecht suite, for example, not only has a fridge in it, but also a hob. You notice the age and history in things like the lack of ceiling lights. With a ceiling as beautiful as this, however, you wouldn't want it to be disturbed.

Even the main reception areas are opulent. Staff are friendly, and their English is excellent. One of the few drawbacks to the hotel is the lack of dinings facilities, even for breakfast. With several small supermarkets and cafes within short walk, however, and even a Trdelnik shop below the executive suites, it isn't hard to find food.

The hotel is part of a chain, Garzotto Hotels, but certainly doesn't feel like it. Instead, it's a charming, quirky, unique place.
