Slightly out of the way, at 804 North East Road, Modbury, is a small gem of a playground and park.

The play equipment is designed with middle to older children in mind. There are climbing frames and swings and an adventure playground styled piece of equipment.

But the play equipment is apparently not just designed for children. It is not uncommon to see personal trainers running one-on-one sessions or bootcamps over the equipment, providing enough of a challenge for the adults in their care to make it worth their while to continue to return to the area.

There is also a nice, wide grassed area - often also utilised by training groups - and a half-court basketball court. Further, there is a walking/running path which leads into the back areas of Modbury - eventually joining with the O-Bahn walking track - following the banks of the creek that runs along one boundary of the reserve.

This creek is home to a plethora of wildlife. As well as the bird life - ducks, egrets, lorikeets, kookaburras, et al - at certain times of the year the frog song can reach a loud crescendo, and, if lucky, you may even catch sight of yabbies in the mud at the water's edge.

On top of all of this, there is what appears to be the remains of a very small ruined house near the road. It adds a little something different to the whole area, looking like a piece of pioneer history in the middle of modernity.

There is off-road parking available and there is some seating available. The only shelter is offered by the trees, but that does not seem to deter any of the people who frequent the park.

This hidden gem deserves to be rediscovered.
