Do you have a piece of furniture at home with a flimsy leg? That one piece you keep reminding people not to sit or lean against. And how about that coffee machine? The one that suddenly decided to stop working. Weren't you thinking about fixing them by watching D.I.Y YouTube tutorials?
Or maybe you were thinking about getting rid of them at the next kerbside collection?
The truth is we throw away so much of stuff. Even things with almost nothing wrong, and which could get a new life after a simple repair. The problem is knowing how to make repairs is a skill quickly lost.
Repair Cafe is based on worldwide efforts to reduce landfill waste by engaging experts who can repair, to volunteer their time and expertise. In Repair Cafes, valuable practical knowledge is getting passed on and things are being used for longer and don't have to be thrown away.
Thornleigh Community Centre will host a Repair Cafe on Saturday 22nd February. You can bring along your furniture or electrical items and skilled technicians will teach you and help you to repair your piece, for free.
