This restaurant is no longer trading.

Renno Spice Chinese Restaurant is located in Mawson Lakes, offering a good variety of dishes from Chinese cuisine. The place was pretty crowded when we went there for dinner on a week night. Service was good, with our food getting served to us relatively quickly and complimentary prawn crackers were provided while we waited for our meal. During our visit we tried a couple of dishes that we had not come across at other restaurants – 'Crispy Skin Stewed Duck with Brine' and 'Stir Fried Flavoured Eggplant'.

Crispy Skin Stewed Duck with Brine

Crispy Skin Stewed Duck with Brine' has quite a unique cooking method, with the duck getting stewed before it is fried to make it crispy. The stewing process made the duck meat very tender, which was wonderfully contrasted by the crisp skin, with its flavour enhanced by the sauce it was cooked in. It came with a serving of the braising liquid, sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce with chilli slices to dip the duck in to give it a bit more flavour.

The eggplant in the 'Stir Fried Flavoured Eggplant' was soft but still had a bit of bite to it. The sauce that the eggplant was cooked in rounded out the flavour of the eggplant, giving it a slightly sweet taste. Presentation of the dish was also quite noble, with the eggplant served in a dish that somewhat resembled the vegetable.

Renno Spice, Fish Fillet in Sweet and Sour Sauce, Adelaide

The 'Fish Fillet in Sweet and Sour Sauce' was fried to golden brown with the crisp coating a good contrast to the perfectly cooked flesh. The sweet and sour sauce complemented the fish well and, while it did make the coating of the fish a bit soggy, it was not enough to ruin enjoyment of the dish. It also had slices of capsicum and onion to give it a bit of texture.

Steamed Chicken in Hot Chilli Sauce' is one of their entrée offerings, consisting of steamed chicken on a bed of what we thought was slices of bamboo shoot doused in chilli sauce. The serving size was quite generous for an entrée dish. The flavour of the tender chicken was heightened by the chilli sauce. The chilli sauce gave the dish a delightful zing and while it was not too spicy for us, the staff warned us that it may be too spicy for some tastebuds.

The décor of the restaurant gave it a bit of a formal feel but it still had an overall great ambience. Street side parking is available along the street where the restaurant is located. We enjoyed 20% off our total bill by booking the table through Yumtable.
