Situated on the banks of the Murray River, Renmark Hotel is a community-owned hotel that returns its profits to the community. It boasts a range of accommodation as well as fabulous dining and a superior function centre. Its six different accommodation styles, from the premium riverview balcony spa rooms to the cosy standard hotel rooms, are sure to suit every guest.
On our recent trip to Paringa to see its new silo art, we decided that the $90 hotel room was sufficiently adequate for an overnight stay. Located upstairs towards the back of the building, our room had a queen-size bed, two single beds, a television, wireless internet, refrigerator, iron, ensuite bathroom, heating/cooling and tea/coffee facilities. It was clean and spacious although featuring rather old amenities.
For views of the river, hotel room guests have access to a shared balcony. This is also the place to witness the sun setting in the evening and rising again the next morning. Of course, you'll have your own private balcony if you'd opted for the premium rooms. Other hotel facilities include a swimming pool, laundry service and free onsite parking. Because our room was quite a fair way from the onsite parking, we ended up parking by the road right in front of the hotel's entrance.
As for dining, we had a fabulous experience at its Nanya Bistro. We enjoyed lunch there but it is also open for breakfast and dinner. The food was simply delicious and both our half-serve schnitzel and prawns were very generous in size. The bistro, managed by really friendly front of house staff, has a relaxed atmosphere with an alfresco deck overlooking the river. Just wished the reception staff was just as cordial at check-in.
Established in 1897, Renmark Hotel strives to preserve its heritage listing and even has a museum within its building. You can find the hotel at the corner of Murray Avenue and Para Street in Renmark. Booking a room is easy online via their website.
If you happen to be staying between Wednesday and Saturday, be sure to also take a ride with Murray the Driverless Bus. One of its bus stops is conveniently located just opposite the hotel. This free trial hop-on hop-off service will introduce you to automated vehicle technology and your thoughts and feedback are much appreciated. Do check out their website for more information.
Only been to Renmark once, many years ago. A return visit may be in order. The Renmark Hotel seems to cater for all budgets and the food, although basic, looks delicious. I like the idea of half serves. I'm not sure about the driverless bus.
